Terms of Use

These terms cover your use of the GlanceKit iOS app and its widget, published by Purpose Software LLC (“we”, “us”). Installing or using GlanceKit means you accept them. If you do not accept them, delete the app. They sit alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What GlanceKit is

GlanceKit is an iOS app for building Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets. You configure items — a countdown, a clock, the weather, a price, a headline, or a single value pulled from a JSON API you choose — and a widget renders the one you point it at.

There is no GlanceKit account and no GlanceKit server. Your configuration stays on your device, in a container shared only with the GlanceKit widget. When a widget needs fresh data, your device asks the source directly; nothing is proxied through us. We make the app. We do not make, host, or supply the data it displays.

2. Apple’s terms also apply

GlanceKit is distributed through the App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to your copy of the app in addition to these terms. You can read it at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Three things follow from that, worth stating plainly:

• Support is ours, not Apple’s. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for GlanceKit. Email us instead.
• Apple is not responsible for GlanceKit, for its content, or for any claim about it — including product liability, a claim that it fails to meet a legal requirement, or a claim under consumer protection or privacy law.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you directly.

3. GlanceKit Pro

GlanceKit is free to use. The free tier gives you up to three LockInfos, and five types: countdown, date and time, custom text, schedules and weather. The first four are computed entirely on your device and never reach the network. Weather is the exception — it fetches from MET Norway, and the coordinates saved on that LockInfo are sent with each request.

GlanceKit Pro unlocks unlimited LockInfos, the live-data types (crypto, stocks, exchange rates, news feeds, and any JSON data source), every theme, and the fastest refresh preference. Prices and terms are shown in the App Store at the moment you buy, in your local currency.

Two of the Pro types additionally need a key you obtain yourself, from the provider, on your own account: crypto prices require a CoinGecko Pro key, which is a paid plan, and stock quotes require a free Finnhub key. GlanceKit ships no keys of its own. Pro unlocks the feature; it does not pay for anyone else’s service.

Pro is an unlock in the app, not a data service. We do not promise that any particular source stays available, keeps its current format, or stays free of charge. A provider changing, throttling, or shutting down its API is not a failure of Pro.

4. Auto-renewal, and how to cancel

• The monthly and yearly plans renew automatically until you cancel. Apple charges your Apple Account within 24 hours before the current period ends.
• Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for.
• Cancel through the App Store: Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device, or apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
• We cannot cancel it for you. We have no access to your Apple Account and no ability to stop Apple billing it.
• Apple handles price changes under its own rules, including notifying you and asking for consent where required.

5. Buying Lifetime does not cancel your subscription

This one catches people, so read it twice. Lifetime is a separate one-time purchase. It is not part of the subscription group, which means buying it does not cancel, pause, or refund a monthly or yearly subscription you already have. Apple will keep billing that subscription on schedule until you cancel it yourself.

If you buy Lifetime while subscribed, cancel the subscription in the App Store straight away. Your Pro access is safe either way — Lifetime does not expire. But until you cancel, you are paying for the same thing twice.

“Lifetime” means for as long as GlanceKit is available and we continue to publish it. It is a one-time payment with no renewal, not a promise that the app runs forever on every future version of iOS.

6. Payments, billing, and refunds

Apple is the seller. All purchases go through the App Store, and your payment details go to Apple and to nobody else — not to us, and not to any processor we use. We never see a card number.

RevenueCat is our billing and entitlement provider. It validates every purchase with Apple and tells the app whether Pro is active, which is what unlocks the paid features on your device. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-user identifier, the transaction, the product identifier, and basic device and platform information. It does not receive your payment details or anything you configured in GlanceKit. What it does with the data it holds is governed by its own privacy policy, and ours describes the handover in full.

Refunds are Apple’s to give, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not take the payment, so we cannot return it. If something is broken, email us first — we would rather fix it.

7. Third-party data

Almost everything interesting in GlanceKit comes from somewhere else: weather from a meteorological institute, prices from market data providers, headlines from a feed you chose, and whatever a JSON endpoint you typed happens to return.

We do not own, control, verify, endorse, or guarantee any of that data. It may be delayed, incomplete, rounded, wrong, or simply unavailable. A source can change its response format, start rate-limiting, begin requiring a key, or disappear without telling anyone.

Data you display through GlanceKit remains subject to the licence and terms of whoever published it. Where a source requires attribution, the app shows it, and you should leave it intact.

News works the same way. Headlines, publisher names, and links belong to the publisher. GlanceKit shows the newest headline and opens the publisher’s own page when you tap it. It does not store or republish article text, does not fetch images, and never rewrites a link to route around a paywall.

8. Financial data is display-only, and is not advice

Crypto prices, stock quotes, exchange rates, and any financial figure you configure yourself are shown for information only. They are not financial, investment, tax, or trading advice, and nothing in GlanceKit is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold anything.

Treat every number as potentially stale. Values are cached, widgets refresh on a schedule iOS controls, and a figure on your Lock Screen can easily be minutes or hours behind the market. The app marks ageing values as such, but a marked value is still not a live quote.

Do not make a trading or financial decision based on a GlanceKit widget. Check the exchange, the broker, or the official rate. Purpose Software LLC is not a broker, dealer, exchange, investment adviser, or financial institution, and we are not responsible for any loss arising from a number you read in a widget.

9. Weather, tides, and anything safety-related

Weather, tides, river levels, earthquakes, air quality, aviation reports, space weather, and similar data in GlanceKit are informational. They are not a warning system.

Do not rely on GlanceKit for any decision where being wrong is dangerous — whether to sail, fly, dive, swim, drive, travel, evacuate, or take a medical or safety precaution. A widget can be hours out of date, can show data for a location resolved some time ago, and can fail to update at all. Use the official service for your area.

10. Your sources, your keys, your responsibility

When you point GlanceKit at a feed or a JSON endpoint, your device makes that request, on your instruction. That makes some things yours to handle:

• Complying with the source’s terms of service, licence, rate limits, and attribution requirements — including any restriction on commercial use.
• Having the right to access whatever you point the app at.
• Any API key you supply. Keys are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device and attached to requests to the address that widget is pointed at. GlanceKit ships no keys of its own — the account, the plan, the quota, and the bill are yours. If you repoint a data source at a different provider, clear the key field first.
• Anything a provider does in response to traffic GlanceKit made on your instruction, including suspending your key or charging your account. That is between you and them.

11. Acceptable use

The custom data source feature will fetch any HTTPS URL you give it. That does not mean every URL is yours to fetch.

Do not use GlanceKit to reach anything you have no right to reach: private or internal endpoints you are not authorised for, another person’s account or credentials, or material that is unlawful where you are. Do not use it to get around a paywall, a rate limit, an access control, or a terms-of-service restriction.

Do not resell the app, present it as your own, or try to defeat the Pro entitlement check. Beyond that, what you build is yours: the widgets, the configurations, and the decisions about what to point them at.

12. Availability and refresh

iOS decides when a widget reloads. GlanceKit asks for updates at the cadence you choose, but the system budgets reloads across every app on your device and can delay or skip them — especially in Low Power Mode, on a busy device, or when the app has not been opened in a while. A refresh preference is a request, not a guarantee.

We make no uptime commitment for the app or for any source it talks to. We may add, change, or remove built-in sources and catalogue templates — usually because the provider changed something first — and we may stop publishing the app.

13. Your data stays on your device

Everything you configure — LockInfos, cached values, preferences, and your API keys — is stored on your device. We hold no copy, because we run no server. Deleting the app deletes all of it, including your keys, and there is nothing for us to restore. Back up your device if that matters to you.

14. Warranty disclaimer

GlanceKit is provided “as is” and “as available”. We build it carefully and use it ourselves, but we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, timely, error-free, or accurate, and we make no warranty at all about third-party data or third-party services.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Some places do not allow parts of that disclaimer, so parts of it may not apply to you. If you are a consumer, you may have rights under your local law that these terms cannot limit — nothing here takes them away.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, trading or investment losses, or losses arising from third-party data being late, wrong, or unavailable — even if we were told such damages were possible.

Our total liability for all claims relating to GlanceKit is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for GlanceKit in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms — usually because the app changed. The current version always lives at this address with the effective date at the top. For material changes we will give notice in the app or on this page before they take effect.

Continuing to use GlanceKit after a change means you accept the updated terms. If you do not, stop using the app and cancel any subscription through the App Store.

17. Governing law

Purpose Software LLC is a company incorporated in the United States. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The state and federal courts located in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

If you are a consumer resident outside the United States, this does not deprive you of the mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence, or of your right to bring proceedings there.

18. The rest

• If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
• Not enforcing something once does not mean we give up the right to enforce it later.
• These terms, together with Apple’s Licensed Application EULA and our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about GlanceKit.
• You cannot transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours if the app changes hands, and we will post notice on this page if that happens.
